4 Reasons To Workout On Your Lunch Break

4-reasons-to-work-out-on-your-lunch-break-cohesivefitness.comSummer is coming and I am guessing your calendar is already filling up with happy hours and drive in movie dates, right? The longer days feel luxurious, but you won’t want to spend those precious extra hours logging miles on the treadmill. I have always worked out mid-day or on my lunch break because it is the time I have the most energy to put towards my workouts. If you are getting anxious about how you will fit your workouts into your busy summer schedule, here is why you should consider a lunchtime workout:

//It makes you more productive

You know that afternoon slump, that second cup of coffee you may need to survive those last 3 hours in the office? That is nonexistent after a lunch workout. You will feel so energized and focused, your coworkers will be envious. Come back from lunch with a glow about you and some pep in your step. Also, getting fresh air helps with your concentration too. One of my favorite things to do when I worked in a corporate office was drive to the beach and walk around. It gave me a sense of serenity during a stressful day. Just getting into nature is invigorating.

//Sleeping in

Well, I don’t need to tell you how nice it is to get that extra hour and a half of sleep in the morning instead of lacing up your gym shoes. Those evenings at an outdoor concert with friends will be a lot more enjoyable if you know your alarm will be going off at 7am instead of 5:30am. You should always be getting 7-9 hours of sleep every night, so a lunch time workout helps you fit in all your priorities and still have time for sleep.

//It won’t ruin your plans

Back to that outdoor concert, you won’t feel guilty attending if you know you already got your workout in that day. Have the freedom to attend any social event you choose and enjoy your summer. We may not get summer break anymore, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a little extra fun in the summer.

//You won’t skip your workout

It is easy to commit to a lunchtime workout because you don’t have many excuses. If a meeting runs over, just take a later lunch. Make sure you pack your gym clothes every night before bed though, to put your mind at ease. Also, it’s good to master a cute braided up-do in case your workout was especially sweaty that day. 🙂 Here are some of my favorite post gym hairstyles!

Your turn:
I challenge you to try working out on your lunch break for an entire week. You could try going for a walk around your office building, doing a circuit workout with bands at a local park, or a quick 20 minute HIIT workout if you have a gym in your building or nearby.

  • These are great ideas! I always hate the suggestion that I should wake up early and work out before I start my day. As if!
    I need that precious sleep to waddle around with my pregnant belly in constant pursuit of my fearless exploring toddler.
    Now how can I get one of these lunch breaks? jk

    Thanks Sara! I am not a big morning workout person, I either don’t eat enough food and feel sick, or I eat too much food and feel sick. Plus I am really not a morning person so getting up at 5am for the gym is unrealistic for me. 🙂 A workout is just as good no matter when you get it in! I don’t have kids yet so I can’t even imagine how you fit your workouts in with them! Kudos to you!
