5 Fit Girl Problems We Can All Relate To

5 Fit Girl Problems

As a Pilates instructorย who recently left a corporate career, my struggles seem so different now that they did working in a 9-5 setting {and teaching on top of that}. Nonetheless, the struggle is real. If you are a fitness instructor, personal trainer, or fitness fanatic, you should be able to relate to at least two things on this list below.

I am writing this post in between teaching 7am-9am, going home to work on this post, going to the gym, going to teach more and then coming home to work on this more. By the way, I will do a day in the life post soon in case any of you are curious what it’s like juggling freelance work, blogging and teaching while also making time for my husband and family.

I hope you enjoy these 5 Fit Girl Problems, and get a little chuckle out of reading some of them. ๐Ÿ™‚

// Eighty percent of your wardrobe is spandex.

Since leaving my corporate job, I have noticed my wardrobe has been leaning much more to the lycra end of the spectrum. The nice dress clothes have been pushed to the back of my closet. Lululemon and Under Armour have been my best friends for the past few weeks. Having workout clothing that stands the test of time is essential as a fitness instructor and enthusiast.

// Washing your hair is an event.

I have a plan for the days that I wash my hair. Since Wednesdays are a light workout day for me and a day I don’t teach, I usually wash my hair on Tuesday evening and then again on Friday. Yes, you read that right. I only wash my hair 2 days a week. I have a systematic way that I plan my hairdos.

Monday – Ponytail with a braid.
Tuesday – Ponytail/Wash Hair that evening
Wednesday – Wear hair down either wavy or straight.
Thursday – Wear hair half up or front pieces braided away from face.
Friday – Wash hair/Wear it down
Saturday – Wear hair down or pull front pieces away from face.
Sunday – Half up do

I use Not Your Mother’s {Clean Freak} Dry Shampoo between washes, and I LOVE it. I don’t recommend going from washing your hair daily to only twice a week right away. You want to slowly lengthen the time between washes, and let the oils that your scalp produces adjust. When you wash your hair all the time, your scalp produces more oils, so when you stop washing all together you will get really greasy hair. Just ease into it. I promise it’s freeing when you don’t have to spend an hour a day doing your hair!5-fit-girl-problems-cohesivefitness.com

// Remembering to pack all your snacks for a day out.

If you try to eat healthy eighty percent of your day, then you know the true struggle of not being able to find healthy snacks on the go. If I know I am going to be out all day, I try to bring snacks with me, but I often forget because I am just rushing around here and there. This is one struggle I know a lot of us fitness instructors {and fitness enthusiasts} struggle with.

Fit Girl Problem Meal Prep

// Changing two to three times a day.

It’s not so bad now that I don’t punch a clock for corporate anymore, but a major fit girl problem is having multiple costume changes a day. When I was working full time, I had to bring two changes of clothes with me a day. I had my work outfit, my workout clothes for lunch and a separate set of workout clothes to go teach Pilates after I left the office. This was a lot to remember to pack, and it meant a million extra laundry days just so I had enough clean socks and underwear. I probably have forty pairs of underwear now for this exact reason! Have you ever forgot your socks for a workout or a clean pair of underwear to change into? That is the worst!

// Your phone dying for playing too much Spotify.

I make special Spotify playlists for each of my classes, and so my phone is always dying. I know I need a new charger for my car and I need one for the studio. Currently I only have one, so I need to remember to pack it with me to the studio and then to bring it back home again, otherwise my phone dies in the middle of class. It’s quite a pain. It’s on my todo list but other things always seem to take priority, you know what I mean?

Speaking of Spotify, here are a few of my favorite playlists I have made. ๐Ÿ™‚

Awesome list! Where do you teach Pilates? I have a corporate full time job and yes, I feel like a bag lady with all the gear I have to bring!

  • Haha, these are all so true! Thanks so much for sharing and linking up ๐Ÿ™‚

  • No problem! Thanks for hosting the link up!

  • I teach Pilates at a few places, one in Tierrasanta and the other in Del Cerro right by Cowels Mountain! What part of San Diego do you live in? I am in La Mesa. <3

  • I’m seriously jealous you can go that long without washing my hair. For almost a year I’ve been limited how often I wash my hair and it’s STILL greasy on day 2!

  • Awe sorry to hear that! Braids really do wonders with greasy hair and make you look totally put together! <3

  • I don’t seem to have those problems :/ I’ve washed my hair 3 times a week (MWF) for years. I can relate to the phone because I pretty much have to keep it charging at work!

  • Dana Brillante-Peller

It must have been a huge change leaving corporate America! I have been out since October and I totally agree with you that workout clothes have replaced my dress pants and pencil skirts. (My problem is that I don’t work out in them…and need to!!)

  • I definitely understand the struggle! I’m a graduate student and I teach classes so I always have to pack my workout clothes for the days that I teach! And I definitely have to strategically plan when to wash my hair…always after kickboxing day! And I’m loving the Booty Poppin Workout playlist! I just followed it so I can listen as I run!

  • Have you ever thought of getting a battery back-up to keep your phone charged? They are pretty handed. While I can’t relate to this post as an instructor as someone who use to run daily (waiting for injury to heal…) I find I go through a ton of clothes – before run, during run, and after run!

I switched to a conditioning cleanser instead of shampoo about a year ago. And I go longer between washings now too. I agree, it is something you need to be patient with and take time, because your scalp has to adjust to it. But my hair has never been more healthy!

  • I should try a conditioning cleanser! Which one do you use?

  • Angela, Yes its just something I haven’t ever picked up lol! I have had multiple chargers before but now my car won’t charge my phone for whatever reason. I do have a backup one at my studio now! <3

  • Toyin,

Glad you like the playlist. I have almost been listening to it every day I weight lift lol! I am obsessed.

Yes when I worked full time it was CRAZY! It’s not too bad now but I used to have 3 changes of clothes OMG!

  • Dana,

Haha! I feel you. I hardly even wear jeans at this point and feel like I am “dressing to the nines” when I put jeans and a blazer on! ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Cassandra,

Yes my phone dies so fast. Now I know I need an upgrade. My husband has the Iphone 6 and the battery lasts ALL day! So jealous.

  • Yea that is exactly what I did when I worked full time and was teaching! Even though I work from home now and still teach, its still a struggle lol!

  • Dana,

What do you do now that you are no longer in corporate?

  • Ah a weeks worth just for the gym bag, didn’t even think of that! <3 Great idea!

  • ๐Ÿ™‚ Glad I am not the only one!
